Munsang College

15,472 sqm | Hong Kong

The college sought to expand and enhance its facilities with the construction of new six storey block. The building will provide a series of education facilities including, classrooms, and common rooms, swimming pools, meeting rooms, multi-purpose spaces, a library, store and new landscape spaces on two levels. The first of these a first floor landscape corridor and seating space connecting existing blocks above street level. In this area the sculptural benches and fixed planters provide an attractive and functional edge to the space whilst also blending in with the form of the building. Colourful shrubs and ground cover planting provide seasonal highlights, creating a sensual experience for staff, students and visitors to the college. The second of these landscape spaces is the green roof allowing elevated views of the surrounding urban landscape. The layout of the roof landscape incorporates the upstand structural beams which are an intrinsic part of the building’s structural design. The proposed green roof layout is also consistent with the architecture façade treatment of the building and its bands of planting provides an attractive and integrated greening treatment to the roof surface.
