Energizing Kowloon East – Revitalization of Tsui Ping River

50,000 sqm | Hong Kong

SCENIC were responsible for the detailed design and construction for a unique riverfront project as part of Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) strategy to transform Kowloon East into an attractive alternative core business area (CBD2) for Hong Kong. Their vision is to make Kowloon East a better place to live, work and play. Our proposals include transforming the 1 km long nullah into “Tsui Ping River”, and integrating it with a new park landscape and the adjoining pedestrian network.

The design concepts are derived from aspects of the industrial heritage of Kwun Tong. In relation to the river channel we have been inspired by some of the forms associated with the history of the textile and garments industry and used this analogy to weave the riverside into the surrounding urban fabric. The public realm design proposals are not only richly detailed but incorporates multi-layered use programmes and hierarchical spatial definition designed to encourage spaces for both social interaction and intimacy. The project is due to be completed in 2023
