Extension of Operation Theatre Block of Tuen Mun Hospital

| Hong Kong

The landscape design recognised that spending long hours in hospital can be a stressful experience for patients, staff and visitors. Studies have shown that views or access to landscape areas or gardens can help us adapt to stress and thus recover more quickly. Natural elements such as planting, sunlight and fresh air are seen as essential components of healing. The gardens located at various levels were conceived as a contrast to the hospital experience: natural, domestic-scaled, rich in sensory experience, with varied organic shapes, and providing areas to be alone or to meet family members and plenty of fresh air.
