Energizing Kowloon East – Revitalization of Tsui Ping River

50,000 sqm | Hong Kong

SCENIC was responsible for the detailed design and construction delivery of a unique riverfront project as part of the Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) strategy to transform Kowloon East into an attractive alternative core business area (CBD2) for Hong Kong.

Following our initial concept design, the vision to turn Kowloon East into a better place to live, work, and play successfully moved into the construction phase and was completed in late 2024. Our executed proposals successfully transformed the 1 km long concrete nullah into the vibrant “Tsui Ping River,” seamlessly integrating it with a new park landscape and an upgraded pedestrian network.

The completed project stands as a benchmark for modern urban river revitalisation in Hong Kong, creating a highly functional, resilient, and socially vibrant green corridor.

The final built environment brings our Concept to Life. The river channel forms utilize structural geometries inspired by the history of the textile and garment industries. These forms beautifully weave the riverside into the surrounding urban fabric.

The public realm incorporates multi-layered use programmes and hierarchical spatial definitions. These spaces provide room for both social interaction and intimacy. The pedestrian network now includes multi-level cross-river walkways, a floating pontoon, and viewing terraces. These features vastly enhance local walkability.

The construction successfully introduced cutting-edge environmental infrastructure, including a bottom-hinged smart water gate downstream to manage tidal levels. It also features engineered wetlands and wildlife-friendly ecological devices like tidal pools and bird perches.
