Kam Pok Road Village

37,700 sqm | Hong Kong

This high-end, low-rise residential enclave demonstrates how landscape architecture can harmoniously integrate contemporary built forms with delicate regional ecosystems. Situated along a prominent waterway in the New Territories, the master plan treats the landscape not as an edge condition, but as the primary spatial framework. By introducing a responsive network of integrated pocket spaces, micro-climate-enhancing green corridors, and private garden transitions, the design softens the built footprint while establishing a continuous ecological dialogue with the surrounding typography. The result is a low-density sanctuary that balances sophisticated modern living with restorative, nature-first public realms.

The landscape concept for the entrance boulevard is based on the visual axis this corridor creates between the hills and ponds on either side of the site. The planting aims to reinforce this concept, creating layered green edges along the margins of the entrance route to help soften and screen the outline of adjacent buildings and highlight the visual connections through the site.  The site is entered through layered curvaceous walls within which the entrance guardhouse is contained, forming a sculptural gateway at the threshold of the site.

The Streetscape landscape aims to create a welcoming garden street with a domestic scale which is well integrated with the frontage design of the villas.

Layered stone walls of varying heights define the property boundary, where the entrance threshold to individual villas is marked by a stylish gate with vertical detailing framed by refined lighting fixtures, neatly trimmed topiaries, and layers of greenery at the edges of manicured lawns. The combination of modern design, high-quality materials, and abundant greenery creates an atmosphere of luxury, tranquility, and refined living. Every element is carefully arranged, resulting in a property entrance that feels both exclusive and inviting.

The Streetside Villa Entrances are conceived framed entrances which help unite private garden areas with the adjacent streetscape. Raised planters integrated with boundary walls enhance the streetscape greenery, with parking spaces carefully planned around intermittent street trees.

Private gardens were designed for seven of the larger lots on site. These included expansive lawns, swimming pools and outdoor entertainment areas. Gardens were designed in a simple, tropical modern style to fit with the architectural approach. Overall, the intent was to convey sophistication and tranquility, with careful attention to detail perfectly balancing modern architectural design with lush, well-planned landscaping to create a picturesque and exclusive residential setting.

The landscape design is inspired by the vegetated hillsides and wetland pools that form the landscape context of the site. The clubhouse creates a seamless, immersive experience by treating water and vegetation as primary architectural materials. The building is set within a serene wetland pool Emerging from this tranquil water body, the building features a rooftop garden that acts as a fifth facade, blending into the natural surroundings with native plantings that provide a sustainable, lush escape. Access to this elevated oasis is defined by a landscape staircase that mirrors a journey up a hill. The total, integrated design creates a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, where the sound of the water and the vertical green connection foster a profound, relaxing dialogue between architecture and nature.
